Jackie Therrien Fell in Love with Her Best Friend and Wrote a Disarmingly Honest Song About It
Jackie Therrien's "Best Friend & My Lover" proves a simple love song with just a voice and acoustic guitar can still sound unexpectedly fresh in 2020. We asked Jackie to tell us how she wrote the minimalistic ballad and were surprised with the story.

Best Friend & My Lover was actually the very last song I wrote for my second album, Dreaming, that was just released on August 21st. I remember getting the first idea for it in the middle of the night. I wrote the first verse and a chorus, and recorded the melody into my voice memos. The next day I found the chords on my guitar, and from there I just wrote. I wrote the entire song that day.

I wrote this song about falling in love with my best friend, who I've actually had feelings for for a long time. We've been close friends for around 4-5 years now, and after all that time something in me said that I just had to say something to him. The verses in the song I think really capture that when you fall in love with someone, you really start to notice all the little things about that person, things that maybe other people wouldn't notice. I think there's something very special about finding your best friend and your lover all in one person, and that's what this song is about.
