Needle Team Up with Morphine's Dana Colley to Create Haunting Alt Pop
Needle is an alt pop band from San Francisco. They have just released their new album "The Long View" – a record full of intoxicating textures and tranquil melodies. The band's prior music has been compared to Daughter and Beach House, but on this collection of songs they have managed to create an atmosphere quite unlike anyone else's.
The album was recorded in Needle's Noise Room studio and produced by the band themselves. Its highlights include "Last of the Light" and "Over the Rainbow". Both of these tracks (as well as a song "Her") feature none other than Morphine's legendary Dana Colley on sax.

We felt "Last of the Light" was close but it needed something else. Julie mentioned maybe a lower instrument and possibly a saxophone. That gave me the idea to reach out to Dana Colley whom I am friends with on Facebook.

Dana agreed to listen to the track so we sent it to him. At first we were going to try to provide some direction on what we wanted but then thought of his background and ability. We decided to let him do what he does and waited while he worked his magic. When we got the tracks back from Dana, we were both amazed at how well it fit in with what we had sent him. The only comment we had for him was that we wanted more. He added a few more sections to the song including the guitar/sax duet. His contribution really elevated the song.

"Over the Rainbow" is the opening track.

We had some sampled horns on that track but after haring what Dana did on "Last of the Light", we wanted him to replace those. Naturally, what he came up with was perfect.
