Vanya Limb Writes 'Furniture Music' That Has More to It Than You Think
Vanya Limb is the moniker of Erkin Makaveev, one of the most interesting young electronic composers in Russia. His music has been released on labels such as Opal Tapes, Incompetence, LXVIII, Сияние and Fuselab. Erkin's input includes exquisite electronic tunes, distorted techno and music for theatre and exhibitions. On “Six Random Episodes” he explores ambient territory.

“Six Random Episodes” is a music album without words. Most of the information hides in a simple comparison of the tracks names, the art cover and the release title. The rest becomes accessible through an individual listening experience. The most important thing about this is that you don't even have to listen to it at all.

The term 'furniture music', coined at the beginning of the last century, in the 21st century is only getting more and more relevant. Automatic playlists of streaming services compiled by music proctologists will surely offer you hundreds of tracks for practical use. Background music listening became Sorokin's 'The Norm'. But that's not the worst part.

It's simply impossible for Russian composers of non-verbal forms of communication to compete with the increased public demand for rappers and MCs. During the time of the Russian avant-garde, artists were the main public figures, philosophers and thinkers. Now they compete in double times, punchlines, and shamelessly diss each other. And you don't even have to listen to their lyrics — the only thing that matters is the 'flow'.

In the current state of affairs, my album is intended for listening during a concentrated drawing session, dry (and wet) cleaning or sampling by/on homemade beatmakers. However, if you happen to decide to listen carefully, please write me a direct message on social networks with a description of the feelings and the experience you have endured.
