Sofi Gev – Bright Light Shining

Sofi Gev is the solo project of American singer-songwriter Hannah Lovelady who came a long way from making up silly songs on childhood road trips and colouring recipe books with melodic hooks to writing pieces like this one – deep observations "about reflection, change, and moving forward". Interestingly, the multi-layered vocal delivery, 80s-tinged synth sounds, uplifting arp parts and the song's climactic structure reminded me of Peter Gabriel's best songs, with an extra touch of disarming vulnerability.
