LISTEN: Foxy Leopard — Outlaws of Peace
Foxy Leopard is a Quebec-based project by a former club DJ, using human storytelling alongside AI-assisted composition. "Outlaws of Peace", released on October 18, belongs to the concept album After, about the aftermath of the American Civil War. Through the stories of Jesse and Frank James, it considers how violence can persist after the fighting has ended.

Foxy Leopard revisits the story of the James brothers, notorious outlaws who continued their violent ways after the American Civil War. The song raises an interesting question: did the war make them criminals, or did it simply give their violent tendencies a purpose? Given their Confederate past, there's also something unsettling about the romantic mythology surrounding these men.

The rough, metallic sound of the resonator guitar suits the subject particularly well, giving the song an old-fashioned, slightly menacing character. The lyrics have the simplicity of a traditional folk ballad, with images of train robberies, and desperate escapes. Somehow the song leaves its central question unanswered, which is typical not only for history but for art in general.
