LISTEN: Jolly olly — Peggy's Song (If Heaven Had a DJ)
Jolly olly comes from Rowley Regis in the Black Country. He started DJing at 12 and was playing mobile gigs by 14, then stepped back from performing to focus on his family. Now he makes his own dance tracks. "Peggy's Song (If Heaven Had a DJ)" came out on October 19. Rowley wrote it for a late friend, nicknamed Peggy after the EastEnders character, who heard and liked the first rough cut before she passed away.

The track mixes classic, uplifting diva house with the catchy, energetic melodies of ’90s Europop, especially the Swedish stuff (think Ace of Base). I can easily imagine it playing at a sweaty rave full of cool kids, but I can just as easily picture a whole Eurovision crowd singing along to it. The piano line reminds me of classic Robert Miles tracks, too. And knowing that the song is connected to the artist’s late friend makes the whole thing especially touching. It’s such a joyful, upbeat tune, yet there’s a real sadness to it that makes me appreciate it even more.
