Patrick Costello is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from San Francisco who leads The KnabokovCollective. His single "Heart Like a Hurricane" came out on October 26 and tells a story of young love and attraction. He wrote the song and handled vocals and drums, recording at Laughing Tiger Studios in San Rafael with co-producer Ari Rios, guitarist Tom Finch and bassist Tommy O’Mahoney.
This is some of the rawest, sweatiest old-school music you'll hear, and in the age of AI, it's a breath of fresh air. The first thing that grabbed me here is Patrick's singing. He sounds like a guy who sings simply because he feels like singing, because it's the most natural thing in the world to him. There's no desire to show off or impress anybody, and that takes me straight back to the traditions of folk, blues, and old-time music, when singing was just something people did. The guitar solo is fantastic, too, and the vocal harmonies are incredibly rich.
